If you live in unincorporated Washoe County and have a fire hydrant on your property, you can help the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District maintain it. That means clearing space around it and  - if it's faded - even painting it. Â
After testing is complete, any discolored water in homes can usually be removed by flushing water pipes for several minutes.
