June 8, 2017 Update:Â Some improvements have been completed but the repaving project has been pushed to late summer to avoid impacting other regional construction and repair efforts.Â
It has been six months since the Little Valley Fire and victims are still trying to rebuild the homes they have lost, but road construction on Franktown Road could possibly slow down some of the progress residents have made.Â
Mary Anne Healy's home was built in the early 1900's, but it was destroyed in the fire along with most of her land. "Some of our fields got burned past the roots so that will all have to be replanted...so there goes the hay crop for this year," she explains.
Not only have residents there had to deal with the big fire, but they also had to deal with major flooding from this winter.
Starting in May and lasting through June, NDOT is repaving the road on Franktown. Residents are concerned the repaving could slow down some of the construction for residents. But NDOT says that they will work with the homeowners in hopes that the construction doesn't hurt their rebuilding progress.Â
"What I would encourage them to do is contact us-all of our information is on our website-and we would be happy to coordinate with them as well, for them in particular," explains Meg Ragonese, the Public Information Officer for NDOT.Â
NDOT says the repairs should only take a couple weeks and everyone will still be able to get where they need to go on Franktown Road, just expect some minor delays.Â
