The Reno Police Department wants to remind shoppers of some Cyber Monday safety tips.
They said since shopping is easier than ever with online shopping and smart phones, there are some basic tips to avoid scams and credit card fraud.
- Use a single credit card
Reno Police says it's easier to cancel one card than several if your card is compromised by online purchases.Â
- Consider using a prepaid card
Using a prepaid credit card will limit the amount of money criminals can get if you are victimized.
- Document your purchases and check statements
Keeping a list of online purchases with dates and amounts will help verify any suspicious charges to your account
- Avoid public or unsecured Wi-Fi
Consumers can't guarantee security of your computer or smart phone if you are placing order on a public network. Your personal information may be at risk whenever you use a public or community computer system to make purchases online.
- Know delivery datesÂ
Keeping track of packages to your home will help you to remember not to leave them unattended at your front door. Having a family member or trusted neighbor keep an eye out for you will help deter criminals who are known to drive around neighborhoods and steal packages from resident's porches.
