Damonte Ranch High School Student Proposes Driver Safety Program Bill for Teens

Tuesday was the last day of the Nevada Youth Leadership event at the Legislature and one student from Damonte Ranch High School has drafted a bill that has received bi-partisan support.

"A lot of teens don't know how to be necessarily safe on the roads," Nathan Tea said. "They don't have the skills and knowledge necessary to be able to get out of any sort of dangerous situation that they may encounter."

The bill would create more rigorous driver safety programs and require teens to complete them before being eligible to get their driver's licenses.

"Every student In Nevada should have the opportunity and the ability to share in that experience and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be safer on the roadways." Tea said.

He said he came up with this bill after losing a friend in a driving accident back in November of last year.
