The Eureka County Sheriff's Office is reporting the first mining site death of 2020 in the county.

Deputies say 60-year-old Thomas N. Avery of Spring Creek, died at the Carlin Operation, North Area mine site of Nevada Gold Mines, in rural Eureka County just before 8 a.m. on Thursday.

An official cause of death is under investigation, pending autopsy results. 

The U.S. Mine Safety & Health Administration was notified of the man's death. 

Deputies now say that the man's death was not directly mining related, but occurred on mine property and appears to be from a medical event.
