Douglas County Commissioners met with the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority today, to discuss further details about the proposed event center.
It would be located in the Montbleu parking lot at the corner of Highway 50 and Lake Parkway.
According to the CEO of the Tahoe Chamber, the center is estimated to cost around 90 million dollars and hold a maximum of 6,000 people.
Thursday's meeting focused on funding for the project.
"Today will be a presentation on the financial package and how its going to work. As well as a decision the Douglas County Commission has to make, which will allow re-development funds to support 19 percent of the bonds necessary in the project. That will come next month in March," says Steve Teshara who is the CEO of the Tahoe Chamber.
Steve Teshara says there has been a lot of concern about the funding of the project.
He says he wants to ensure there will be no fall back on tax payers in Douglas County if the project is unsuccessful.
Community members were also welcomed to attend the board meeting to express their support or concerns, and there were a lot of mixed emotions.
"I don't think we are getting all of the financial information that we need. You start doing math over 30 years, it doesn't add up," says Fran Lipton.
Residents also addressed other concerns like the increase in congestion, if tax payers money would have to pay for the project, and they fear the event center won't be as successful as everyone paints it out to be.
"Why do the other event centers like Harris or Harvey's, which are large, why are they empty so much of the time. And if they're empty," says Lipton.
Others, especially business owners say they are for the event center. They believe it will bring more business to the area, during less popular months.
"I think guests will come here more in you know the early falls, the early springs. Those are when we need someone up here so yes we're totally for the event center," says Kathlene Mason who is the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express.
Residents also added the event center will add more jobs to the area.
Teshara says community members are welcomed to attend meetings in March to continue to give their feedback.
