Emergency Roadwork to Impact Traffic on I-80 East of Truckee

The California Department of Transportation is alerting motorists to expect delays on Interstate 80, east of Truckee, as work to groove pavement will require alternating lane closures.

The closures will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, November 7th through Wednesday November 23rd. No work is scheduled on Veterans’ Day November 11 and Caltrans says additional work days may be required after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Alternating lanes of Interstate 80 from Hinton Road to the Acid Flat Bridge east of Floriston, will be closed as the contractor increases surface friction by grooving the concrete pavement on both eastbound and westbound freeway lanes

Because there are only two lanes on this section of I-80, motorists are likely to experience traffic delays and are encouraged to to plan for additional travel time through the area.

Priority area work will begin in the eastbound lanes Monday and Tuesday, the 7th & 8th and in the westbound lanes Wednesday and Thursday, the 9th & 10th.

The contractor will return to the eastbound lanes the week of the 14th to finish grooving the 2nd priority areas with westbound lane work occurring after both eastbound lanes are completed.

A total of 16 lane miles will receive surface traction improvements.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook atCaltransDistrict3.
