One man was sent to the hospital after suffering burns inside a home in Sparks. Emergency crews got a call about the incident just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. They arrived at a home on 40 C Street shortly after, to battle the small blaze. Â
The Sparks Fire Department discovered the source of the fire was coming from the basement after observing a large plume of smoke coming from the house. Two people appeared to be inside the home when the explosion happened, according to the Sparks Police Department. Both adults, a man and a woman made it out of the residence. The man sustained burns to his upper body and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for his injuries. The woman was not hurt. A couple of dogs also made it out of the home without injuries.Â
Police say the male victim told investigators he had a legal marijuana grow at his home. He reportedly told officers the explosion was a butane explosion, which happened while he was trying to manufacture hash oil from marijuana.
Sparks police say they will continue to investigate the incident. "At this time an investigations is just beginning and we are not able to confirm the information reported to officers by resident," according to the Sparks Police Department news release.
