Our Someone 2 Know opened a new business in Reno a few months ago, called Rapid Recovery.

Intravenous hydration or IV drips are gaining in popularity and the owner, a medical professional herself, says there's evidence to support the benefits.

We met up with Debbie Fajans at Rapid Recovery to learn more.

Many people who've heard about IV hydration - the practice of water, minerals and vitamins being directed into your bloodstream - think of it as a hangover cure. Fajans says that’s a popular misconception; "But actually that's only ten percent of our business. 90% of our business is generally health issues; everything from auto-immune disorders to migraines."

Debbie Fajans, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), got the idea to open a hydration lounge after an out of the country adventure with friends; “And one of the friends was so dehydrated that every body part started cramping on them. If you were looking at them you'd see their thigh cramp or you'd see their peck cramp,” Debbie recalls.

When a bag of saline solved the problem, Fajans knew she was onto something. She has since created custom blends, like a yellow-hued mix called Fatigue Fighter

It has - "Your Vitamin B-12, your Vitamin B complex,” explains Debbie, “Which has B1, B2. B3, B5 and B6 in it. Vitamin C, magnesium and zinc.”

For client Katie Silva, the treatment is a necessity;

"I come in every two weeks."

Silva has an autonomic nervous disorder that affects her blood pressure, heart rate and hydration.

"Having these IV treatments, I've flourished this summer,” explains Katie, “It's like night and day."

And while the IV drips are all FDA regulated, and treat legitimate health issues, they are not covered by insurance. Infusions start at about $100.

"You're always assessed by a nurse practitioner,” Debbie confirms, “And the treatments are provided by the nurse practitioners and the nurses."

If you're interested in this treatment you may want to check with your doctor to make sure it's right for you.

If you'd like to meet Debbie for yourself and check out her hydration lounge - it's located in northwest Reno in the same center as Freestyle Martial Arts and Full Pedal.
