First lady Melania Trump spoke at a town hall style event in Las Vegas and addressed the opioid crisis.
"While you may never personally become addicted, the chances of you knowing someone who struggles with it are high."
The first lady said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently launched a campaign called "Rx Awareness" and will soon be launching another called "The Crisis Next Door" to raise awareness about opioid abuse.
First lady Melania Trump traveled to Las Vegas to promote her "Be Best" initiative. She also went to Oklahoma and Washington this week.
Mrs. Trump visited a school in Tulsa and a technology company near Seattle on Monday.
The first lady unveiled her child well-being initiative last year. The program aims to teach children to behave responsibly online and to avoid drugs.
In a statement, Mrs. Trump says “Whether it is social media and technology or drug and alcohol abuse, children in our country and around the world are faced with my challenges. Through Be Best I will continue to shine a spotlight on the well-being programs that provide children the tools and skills required for emotional, social and physical well-being and promote successful organizations, programs, and people who are helping children overcome some of the issues they face while growing up in the modern world.”
