The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch in the greater Lake Tahoe and western Nevada area from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday July 4th.Â
Areas and counties affected include: the greater Lake Tahoe area, Mono, Mineral and southern Lyon counties, the greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area, the western Nevada basin and range including Pyramid Lake.
Other cities affected include South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Bridgeport, Mammoth Lakes, Hawthorne, Yerington, Smith Valley, Incline Village, Sparks, Gardnerville, Virginia City, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, and Silver Springs.Â
At 11:05 a.m. Saturday the National Weather Service reported that doppler radar is tracking a strong thunderstorm over Lake Tahoe that could bring dangerous lightening, heavy rain, and winds in excess of 30 miles per hour. Swimmers should get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle immediately. This storm will impact the north shore of Lake Tahoe through 11:30 a.m.Â
The  National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms will develop this morning and continue into the evening hours. They suggest that if you have outdoor plans this holiday to have a plan to return to shelter quickly should thunderstorms begin.Â
