Four Arrested in Truckee Bike Theft Ring

Four people have been arrested following a spike in thefts of high-end mountain bikes reported earlier this summer.

The Truckee Police Department noticed in June of this year that they were receiving more reports of high-end mountain bikes around Truckee. Usually they say that the bikes were on vehicle racks, locked. The investigation revealed that these thefts were also happening in Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, and Carson City, Nevada.

With the help of the Placer County Sheriff's Office, after surveillance and bait bike operations they were able to identify a suspect vehicle.

Saturday, August 19th around 10:00 p.m .a Truckee police officer located that vehicle, made an enforcement stop, and detained four men, all brothers out of San Francisco: Jesus Gallardo (25), Sergio Gallardo (23) Martin Gallardo (27) and Juan Carlos Gallardo (29).

They all have been charged with multiple counts of grand theft, criminal conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.

After searching the suspects' vehicles and residence in San Francisco they recovered about $70,000 worth of mountain and road bikes. They estimate that about $125,000 worth of property was from the Truckee/Tahoe region.

If you had your bike stolen, they are still processing the stolen property but they do hope to find the lawful owners. It will take some time to inventory everything so they ask that victims delay their calls for the time being.Â
