Fundraiser Scheduled After Local Boy Experiences Tragic Events

Last November 11-year-old Alex Pancake lost his mother. That in itself was tragic, but it's just the tip of the iceberg for that boy's current situation. You see his mother was stabbed to death...allegedly by his father who is now in jail. And Alex was with his mother when she died. After calling 911 for help, he held her as she died. At the same time of that tragedy he was recovering from being hit by a car. He has been moved to Michigan now and is with family there. But he has a very long road or recovery ahead of him.

"He is having a lot of nightmares," said Cyndy Brower this week. She's his great aunt, his mother's aunt and she and her sister were here cleaning out the remnants of Janice Pancake's life. "He's going through the worst emotional roller coaster anyone can imagine, thus the nightmares," she said. "But he's back in school and doing the best he can."

Alex attended Caughlin Ranch Elementary School here and he had friends. They are trying to help as best they can.

"This community has been very helpful for Alex," Brower said. "They have sent money and coats and clothes for him and we appreciate it all."

Tracy Vertucci is among those who want to help. She was his neighbor and she teaches aerobics at Sports West. "We are putting together an Aerobathon this weekend to help. We want to help pay for psychological treatment and physical treatment. Anything this family needs to help him get through all this tragedy is what we are hoping to help with."

That fundraiser is this Saturday at Sports West from 10:30-12:30. They plan to include hip-hop, kick boxing, aerobics and yoga. And they want kids there as well. All proceeds will go to Alex Pancake and his recovery in Michigan.

Brower said there is also a fundraiser set up on Move Your Mountain online. You can find that at https://mymfunding.com/campaign/AlexanderPancake
