The Google engineer who wrote a ten page memo supposedly highlighting the lack of diversity and sexism in Silicon valley is now out of a job.
Software engineer James Damore says he released the document hoping to start an honest discussion on diversity at the internet giant where only 20% of tech workers are women.Â
In his 3,000 word document, Damore proposes these reasons why there's more men working there than women. The three reasons include, "biological causes", women don't have enough drive for status and that women have more neuroticim. In other words, women are more emotional than men.
Google's CEOÂ tweeted a statement sent to employees stating:Â "to suggest a group of our colleagues have traits that make them less biologically suited ... Is offensive and not ok."
Damore confirmed his firing to Reuters, a news agency, in an email saying he was fired for "perpetuating gender stereotypes."
