UPDATE: Stefon Jefferson pleaded guilty on September 10th and has been sentenced to 16 to 40 years for attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

He still faces charges in California for the murders he committed there, but so far California has not followed through with the extradition process.

Original Story on April 26th, 2019: Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Tyree Holdridge  is recovering after being shot in the hand, and local residents are breathing a sigh of relief as the man accused of the shooting is behind bars. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the man who is a suspect in shootings in San Francisco and Oakland is behind bars in the county jail.  CBS affiliate KPIX in San Francisco is also reporting that he may also be a suspect in a shooting in Berkeley as well.

“I couldn't even make out what it was. It went by so fast. Seem like a half dozen law enforcement following behind it,” said Kingsbury Grade resident Clinton Schue. He was surprised to see a collection of police lights from his home on Kingsbury Grade on Friday night. “We were just hoping there wasn't anyone trying to come through here breaking through our property,” said Schue.

What he was seeing was the end of a chase that started in South Lake Tahoe. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the officers were chasing 43-year-old Stefon Jefferson.  “What we do know is that he killed several people in the Bay area. For whatever reason was headed to Lake Tahoe. What he planned to do we can only speculate,” said Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverly.

Oakland Police put out an all-points bulletin on Stefon Jefferson’s car, a black Toyota Corolla. South Lake Tahoe Police spotted the car on Friday at around 10 pm. “They attempted to stop the vehicle and that’s when the pursuit started,” said Sheriff Coverly. Law enforcement followed the Corolla at speeds topping 70 miles an hour. The chase continued along Highway 50 onto the long windy mountain highway 207, which is known as Kingsbury Grade.  “The speed limit is 45 mph. 35 mph in some spots.  He was driving recklessly,” said Sheriff Coverly.

A deputies car hit the back of the Corolla, causing it to spin out.  “The vehicle immediately stopped and the suspect fired a handgun striking one deputy in the hand.  Two deputies returned fire at the suspect. The Corolla then continued down Kingsbury Grade.,” said Coverly.

Deputy Holdridge suffered minor injuries to the hand. The Corolla's time however, ran out. The driver missed a turn, and hit a tree. Stefon Jefferson was treated for minor gunshot wounds and arrested. “We are confident that we have the only person involved in this incident and there is no other threat or risk,” said Sheriff Coverly.

In Douglas County, Stefon Jefferson is now facing charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, felony eluding, battery of an officer, and being an ex-felon with a firearm.
