Housing Crisis in Truckee-Tahoe

With a significant housing crisis in Truckee-Tahoe, a new study is analyzing the needs and issues the region is facing.

The community recently participated in the Workforce Housing Surveys, part of the 2016 Regional Housing Study managed by Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and its program the Community Collaborative of Tahoe Truckee (CCTT).

The renters and homeowners living there say there's a gap between what people make and what's available. They are going to go over the housing study and what possible solutions there could be for the area.

More than 1,700 people participated in the study. The survey found 76% of employees are overpaying for housing in the area. About 62% of employers say the housing conditions are detracting from their business success. And 43% of potential home buyers say they can't find an affordable option.

There will be one more public forum next Wednesday for the community to talk about possible solutions.

Forums will include preliminary data and survey results, and will seek input about the preference and practicality of possible solutions. All community members are invited to participate. Dates are:

May 3, 2016:5:30pm-7:30pm, North Tahoe Events Center

May 11, 2016: 5:30pm – 7:30pm, Granlibakken Tahoe
