"In three, two, one… all out, tread team!” instructs Orangetheory Fitness Coach, Lani Karosich.

She is leading the self-paced, heart-rate interval training that you will find at both Reno studios. "Team, we're going to take it back up to that push effort; that uncomfortable feeling."

Along with running, jogging or walking drills, rowing is also part of the cardio component. Meanwhile, half the class is also on the weight room floor using dumbbells, resistance bands and TRX equipment. Members work to get into the “orange zone” or 84 to 91-percent of their maximum heart-rate. Twelve to 20 minutes in that zone and scientists believe you will boost the calories burned after your workout. It’s called excessive post-exercise oxygen consumption. EPOC is the amount of oxygen required to restore your body to its normal, resting level of metabolic function; increased oxygen consumption is linked to increased metabolism.

Orangetheory Fitness studios across the country now have an easier to track your time in the orange zone.

Orangetheory Fitness Reno just upgraded its tracking equipment so members can see their real-time stats during their workout. The OT Connect tablets – attached to the treadmills - are linked to heart rate monitors.

"When you can see what you're doing with your body, whether you're pushing or maybe not pushing enough, or over-training, you're going to have more success in getting healthier heart and losing weight,” explains the owner of Orangetheory Fitness Reno, Alexis Riggs.

The information includes calories burned, heart rate and distance. More upgrades are expected in the near future, too, to push members towards greater intensity and closer to their goals.
