UPDATE:

The Lassen County Sheriff's Office says a kidnapping suspect was arrested on Friday night in Susanville.

Officials said deputies received a tip that Maitland Carpenter was inside of a home near Kei-Deh Street and he was allegedly holding someone at gunpoint.

They said when they tried to serve a search warrant, Carpenter barricaded himself inside. When officers maintained the perimeter, several occupants from inside the home came out, including the person who had allegedly been held at gunpoint.

Officials said they tried negotiations multiple times and resources from California Highway Patrol, Susanville Police Department, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Cal-Fire and Butte County Sheriff's Office were called in.

They said they used less than lethal defense gas as well.

Officials said Carpenter eventually came out of the home and was arrested.

They said he had warrants related to a past kidnapping and rape case, and another report of a kidnapping they're still investigating.

Officials said they did evacuate some residents in the area at the time.


UPDATE: The Lassen County Sheriff's Office says the kidnapping victim was located, but the suspect is still at large.

Officials said Dorothie Crosby was found safely in Susanville, California.

They said the suspect, Maitland Carpenter remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Officials said they're looking for a vehicle of interest. They said it's a gold Hyundai Santa Fe with license plate 5XIL173.

The Lassen County Sheriff's Office needs help finding a kidnapping suspect who may be in the Sacramento or Reno areas. 

Deputies say 41-year-old Maitland Carpenter was last seen leaving a Susanville area home with Dorothie Janaybean Crosby on Monday morning.

Deputies say the 25-year-old Crosby, who also goes by Janay Miles and/or Janay Crosby is considered to be at risk and with Carpenter against her will.

Deputies say if you see Carpenter, do not approach him and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
