Evacuated Swansboro Residents Allowed to Return Home

The Eldorado County Sheriff's Office says starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, the mandatory evacuation in the areas of Quintette and Volcanoville have been changed to voluntary evacuations.

They say with today's weather, which included heavy rain, in the Rubicon River Drainage area, the threat to the communities has been reduced. However, they say residents should stay ready to evacuate if conditions change, adding that law enforcement will continue to show a strong security presence in the area.

The latest information from Cal-Fire shows the fire has grown to 95,347 acres and is 55 percent contained. The fire has destroyed 12 homes and 57 other minor structures. Another 289 structures are threatened.
