Man Sentenced to Life in Prison After Being Convicted of Child Sex Abuse

UPDATE: 27-year-old Patrick Ian Brymer has been sentenced to life in prison following convictions on his child sex abuse charges.

Officials say Brymer was sentenced in District Court last week to life in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 45 years has been served.

They say Brymer previously pled guilty to one count of sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, one count of lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and one count of use of a minor in a pornographic video.

Officials say the case against Brymer began on January 6, 2020 when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) received a report of child sexual abuse, which had been disclosed at the school of the young victims.

They say an investigation was coordinated through the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and included work by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Washoe County Human Services Agency, and the District Attorney's Office.

Officials say after an investigation by the WCSO, Brymer was arrested based on statements from the two young victims, statements by the defendant, and evidence collected from Brymer’s cell phone.

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office would also like to remind the public that many at risk children are no longer in environments that support safe disclosures of abuse.

They say that if you suspect child abuse or exploitation is occurring, please contact local law enforcement. Confidential reports can also be made to the Human Services Agency Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline 1 (833) 900-SAFE (7233).

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says detectives arrested a Washoe County man on Wednesday on nine child sex-related charges.

Deputies say 26-year-old Patrick Ian Brymer is charged with Sexual Assault of a Child under 14; seven counts of Lewdness on a Child under 14; two counts of Using a Child to Produce Pornography, one count of Possession of Child Pornography, and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child under 14.

Deputies say the alleged crimes involve two girls and occurred from 2017 to 2020 at an undisclosed location in Washoe County. They say the victims know the suspect.

This is an ongoing investigation.
