With a warm weekend ahead, more motorcyclists will be out on the roads.
Officials are asking us all the be aware and cautious.
"Last year we had 51 motorcycle fatalities on Nevada roadways. Again, that's 51 too many. Our goal is zero fatalities just like it is for every other mode of transportation," says Andrew Bennett, Public Information Officer for Nevada's Office of Traffic Safety.
Nevada's Office of Traffic Safety wants everyone to watch out for motorcycles because these next few months are typically the most dangerous.
"Memorial Day to Labor Day is what we call the 100 deadliest days on our roadways. It kind of kicks off that summer season and Memorial Day is also a busy day when it comes to traveling," says Bennett.
Drivers can do their part by creating a safe distance between themselves and motorcycles and by staying aware.
"Look three times for that motorcyclist and it's the same principle that we ask pedestrians to use when they're crossing the street. Look left, look right, look left again -- because that traffic is always going to approach from your left and those motorcycles are always difficult to see given their size," says Bennett.
For motorcyclists, remember it's a two-way street. They need to obey the laws, too, meaning no lane splitting, no speeding and they too need to be staying aware.
"Making sure you have that training so you can safely operate that motorcycle and also, most importantly, make sure you have the mandatory safety equipment -- starting with your helmet and then going down from there," says Bennett.
He says by working together, we can keep each other safe.
