Nevada Lawmakers to Present Bill Repealing Common Core Standards

A group of Nevada lawmakers are leading the charge to repeal the state's Common Core K-12 education standards.

Republican Assemblyman Brent Jones is the primary bill sponsor of Assembly Bill 303 and will present the bill Wednesday before the Assembly Education Committee.

Jones said he took issue with confusing Common Core standards and was concerned with data mining and certain forms of standardized testing. The freshman Republican said supporters of the repeal will rally outside the legislative building before the bill hearing.

Jones said he wants Nevada to adopt K-12 education standards used by Massachusetts.

Nevada adopted Common Core standards in 2009 under former Gov. Jim Gibbons. The standards were approved nearly unanimously by the Legislature. (AP)
