The Fallon Police Department is reminding drivers across Nevada to make sure their car window tint complies with state law before they hit the road.
According to the Fallon Police Department in an online post, Nevada Revised Statute 484D.440 requires front driver and passenger windows to allow at least 35% light transmission with a 7% tolerance. Rear side windows and rear windows may be darker if the car has side mirrors.
The department also said windshield tint is only allowed on the top portion of the windshield and cannot be red or amber in color. Full windshield tint and excessively dark front window tint are not permitted under Nevada law.
Police said drivers can still be cited for improper tint even if the illegal tint was already installed when the car was purchased.
The department said the law is intended to improve visibility and safety for drivers, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers during traffic stops. Drivers are encouraged to check their cars for compliance before installing aftermarket tint or purchasing a used car with tinted windows.
