A new animal shelter in Carson City is scheduled to open to the public this weekend, but we got a sneak peek of the facility earlier this week.
The 101,181 square foot facility, located at 549 Airport Road, replaces the aging Animal Services building from the 1960’s.
In addition, for one day only, on October 4, Carson City will be renamed Maddie’s City, in honor of Maddie’s Fund, a generous supporter of Nevada Humane Society. Maddie’s Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997.
Funding for the Nevada Humane Society Carson City Center came from revenue from a sales tax, donations from Nevada Humane Society and Carson Animal Services Initiative, as well as generous grants from Maddie’s Fund and Petco Foundation.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place this Saturday morning.
