Albitas Mexican Restaurant will close in August after its month-to-month lease agreement with the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority was terminated.

The RTAA says it sent the notification to Albitas on May 31st about the change and says, "there has not been an eviction notice issued" even though a sign outside the restaurant says they have been evicted “forcing us to vacate the premises by August 31st. Despite our 20 years of dedicated service to this community, the RTAA has chosen to displace us without fair compensation or adequate support.”

In a statement to 2 News Nevada, the RTAA says it "has offered relocation support, waived rent, other financial relief and substantial notice to vacate. Albitas has rejected all financial relief offers and relocation support."

In 2022, the RTAA says it notified Albitas, and all other tenants of the building at 1280 Terminal Way, of upcoming plans to build a Ground Transportation Center at that location by 2028.

“We are deeply saddened by this decision and the impact it will have on our loyal customers and our beloved community. We want to thank you all for your unwavering support and patronage over the years,” the restaurant's sign says. It ends with, “thank for your understanding and support during this difficult time.”
