The Democratic Party has selected four states to represent each region of the United States in the presidential nominating campaign.
It's kind of like a pre-season before the big contests start on Super Tuesday, which takes place in early March.
The chosen states are New Hampshire for the Northeast, South Carolina for the South, Nevada for the West, and Michigan for the Midwest.
Nevada is the most diverse of the first four early states, with significant Asian, Black, and Hispanic communities, a demographic that better represents the U.S. population.Â
"Nevada is the perfect place to poll, the perfect place to do an election because we have so many different demographic groups," explained Vote Nevada Executive Director and College of Southern Nevada History Professor Sondra Cosgrove.Â
Democratic Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson has made her progressive economic message clear during her three visits to Nevada.
On Tuesday morning, Williamson held a campaign event at Savage Mystic Gallery in Midtown.Â
"We need a comprehensive economic U-turn," said Marianne Williamson.
2024 Democratic Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson has brought her progressive economic message to Nevada three times so far.
Williamson's platform includes an economic bill of rights, Medicare for all, universal healthcare, tuition-free college, canceling all student loan debt, guaranteed paid family leave, free childcare, guaranteed sick pay and housing, and a guaranteed living wage.
"The diversity that matters most now is economic diversity; in that sense, I see the same thing everywhere. I see every state I've traveled to as a ground zero for how unjust our basic economic reality has become in favor of the few at the expense of the many," said Democratic Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson.
Recently, former President Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and No Labels have all brought their message to Nevadans.
"They might be seeing in their poll numbers that issue x is really important to voters, and they come here and they're like actually no, it's issue y, and so they're going to have to recalculate," said Cosgrove.
Issues critical to Nevadans may sway the national dialogue.
"The price of housing, the shortage of housing, the cost of rent, inflation," said Cosgrove, "all of those issues are going to get lifted up when the presidential campaigns come here to possibly also become a part of the national dialogue."
Vice President Kamala Harris is campaigning for the Biden-Harris ticket in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Williamson will be campaigning in Southern Nevada for the remainder of the week as well.Â
