Temporary closure at El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons for emergency repairs

El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons will be closed Wednesday, July 2, and Thursday, July 3, for emergency repairs to address severe erosion and public safety concerns.

The temporary closure includes the beach, seating area, and boat ramp, though the surrounding Lakeview Commons park will remain open.

City officials said the repairs are necessary after a major storm on June 21 exposed protective measures that were previously installed to prevent erosion.

“This closure is necessary to address significant beach erosion and ensure the safety of the public,” the City stated.

In 2018, high winds and elevated lake levels caused extensive damage to the shoreline.

At that time, emergency crews placed plastic super sacks filled with sand along the beach to act as a revetment and stabilize the area.

Recent assessments during the winter and spring revealed that those protective sacks had become exposed.

The June storm further worsened conditions, leaving the beach unsafe for public access.

Crews will now work to rebury the super sacks and replenish the shoreline with sand.

The City aims to complete the work before the Fourth of July holiday, when large crowds are expected.

“The City is committed to completing these repairs promptly to reopen the beach for public use by the Fourth of July holiday. We appreciate the community's understanding and cooperation during this temporary closure,” the statement continued.

Plans for a long-term repair solution are being developed and are expected to be implemented in a future year.
