With three confirmed hantavirus-related deaths reported in Mono County in recent months, local officials are ramping up efforts to raise public awareness by offering a free virtual forum focused on prevention, protection, and early detection.
According to Mono County, in an online Facebook post, they will host a free community Zoom forum on Thursday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m.
The event brings together local and state health experts to provide valuable information about Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS).
The panel will include representatives from the California Department of Public Health, Mono and Inyo County Public Health, Mammoth Hospital, and the Northern Inyo Healthcare District.
According to the Mono County announcement, attendees will learn how hantavirus is transmitted, diagnosed, and treated, along with practical tips to reduce personal risk, especially in rural or rodent-prone areas.
A live question and answer session will follow the presentation, giving the public an opportunity to engage directly with the panelists.
