Mammoth Mountain confirmed a skier died after a severe fall on one of their expert chutes around 1 p.m. on February 5.
The resort released this statement:
"At approximately 1:00pm, Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol dispatch received a report of a guest who had suffered a severe fall while skiing in Dropout 2, an expert’s only chute located off the top of Chair 23. Patrol arrived on scene at 1:04pm and found the guest unconscious and non-responsive. Life-saving care was administered immediately, and the guest was quickly transported to the care of paramedics, who provided continued care en route to Mammoth Hospital.
Despite these efforts, we are informed the guest passed away. Further details can be obtained from the Mono County Sheriff/Coroner. Notification of next of kin is still pending.
We thank our team and local agencies for their immediate response. Our thoughts and condolences are with the guest’s family, loved ones and friends."
