A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on charges of violating his parole.

On Tuesday the South Lake Tahoe Police Department launched an investigation into reports that unhoused 45-year-old South Lake Tahoe man Gabriel Evans was in possession of body armor.

Evans is a convicted felon on parole and not allowed to possess body armor per California's penal code, a press release from the SLTPD says.

Officers know Evans through previous violent offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, firearms offenses, domestic violence crimes, and a bank robbery which resulted in a SWAT response.

A search of a storage unit belonging to Evans revealed level 3 body armor, the same type worn by law enforcement officers.

Evans was later arrested at Lake Tahoe Community College after attempting to avoid officers by getting onto a bus. No force was used to take Evans into custody.
