Over the weekend, Gold Country Wildlife Rescue received an adult Bald Eagle that had been found on the ground in the Tahoe area, unable to fly.

After a thorough veterinary examination, it was discovered the eagle had suffered a severe shoulder fracture that could not be repaired.

According to an online Facebook post, Gold Country Wildlife Rescue said that despite hopes of stabilizing the bird and transferring it to specialists at the Bird of Prey Health Group, the injury left no option for recovery.

In what staff described as one of the most difficult aspects of wildlife rehabilitation, the decision was made to humanely euthanize the eagle to prevent further suffering.

In the post the organization acknowledged the emotional weight of such decisions, emphasizing that easing pain is sometimes the kindest act of care.

They also expressed deep gratitude to the people who rescued the magnificent eagle, bringing it to their rescue and ensuring it received dignity, compassion, and expert attention in its final hours.
