Three pedestrians suffered major injuries after they hit by a truck while working on a car's tire chain during snowy conditions on U.S. 50 early Monday afternoon.
The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. east of Johnson Pass, in a turnout.
CHP says two men stopped to help the first man adjust a chain on the left front tire of Kia.
That's when the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, heading west, lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the three men.
CHP says one pedestrian was thrown about 40 feet during the collision while the two other young men were dragged by the truck ultimately being freed by Caltrans and other passerbys.
All three were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
CHP says alcohol was not involved, but it was snowing at the time of the crash.Â
