Camp Sunrise is a weekend camp for children ages seven to 14 who have experienced the death of a loved one, or another significant loss.
The camp, organized by Barton Health, will take place from Thursday, August 8, to Saturday, August 10 at Galilee Camp and Retreat Center in Glenbrook, Nevada.
Children who attend will be able to meet other children who have similar experiences and participate in activities involving art, music and recreation.
They will also attend daily support groups and will have the support of professional bereavement staff and volunteers.
All activities are at no cost.
The camp is open to children in the Lake Tahoe area, as well as Carson City and Carson Valley.
If you are interested, applications must be turned in by Friday, July 19.
Applicants will be interviewed after a completed registration form is turned in.
You can find applications at this link, or you can email tbruess@bartonhealth.org, or call Tina Bruess at (530) 543-5592.
“Teens and children grieve differently than adults, and have additional needs when it comes to loss,” says Tina Bruess, Director of Camp Sunrise and grief counselor with Barton Hospice Staff. “This is why Camp Sunrise is so important — we assist campers in developing healthy coping skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.”
