Drugmaker Moderna is asking the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization to approve its COVID-19 booster vaccine for adults over 18 years old.

In October, the agency authorized a Moderna booster dose for people aged 65 and older and certain other at-risk adults.

Moderna's two-dose primary series vaccine is currently authorized for emergency use for people 18 and older in the U.S.

CDC advisers are set to meet Friday to discuss recommending booster doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for all adults.

The FDA is expected to decide on authorizing booster doses of that vaccine - and possibly Moderna's vaccine as well – ahead of Friday's CDC advisory meeting.
