The Dancing in the Streets Festival is seeking fundraising support for its event this year.

On Friday night, they held a fundraising event at the Reno Public Market as a call to action for the community.

In past years, the event hasn't needed any fundraising, but this year is different since the event continues to grow.

Jaime Chapman, the executive director of Midtown Reno, says, "Events are free to attend, but they're not free to produce, and the event has grown, right? This is going to be our fifth year, and every year it gets bigger and bigger, and so do the expenses."

If they don't make the amount they are working to raise for the event this year, there's a possibility that Dancing in the Streets won't be back for 2026.

However, they're standing their ground in telling us that they'll never ask for an entry fee from the public.

Chapman explains, "It is our goal to always keep Dancing in the Streets free. That's a huge component of what Midtown wants this event to be, and bring people in to see all the cool changes and all the new shops and all that Midtown is, you know? So no, we want to always keep it free, and we're hoping this fundraiser will help us do that."

They say the fundraiser is meant to feel like a mini Dancing in the Streets with live music, performances, raffle prizes, and Dancing in the Streets and Midtown merch.

Chapman also mentions how much they love hearing how excited everyone is for the event.

"I've been getting lots of calls like 'I'll see you tonight,' so it's cool to see the community really stepping up and being excited about the event," she said.

The goal is to raise $20,000, and they have until the end of March to reach that goal, so the clock is ticking.
