Verdi traffic stopped

With stormy weather all throughout the holiday week, the Nevada Department of Transportation gave some tips for safely driving in the rain or snow.

"We've been monitoring this forecast for a while now. Keeping an eye on the storm coming in and what the expected snow levels and accumulation amounts were," said Andrew Lawrence, Assistant District Engineer, NDOT.

The Westbound traffic in Verdi stopped due to the storm.

Lawrence says, depending on the forecast, they get a general idea of how to staff enough crews to ensure 24/7 service of keeping drivers safe.

He adds that driving safely around NDOT operations vehicles like ploughs, to keep both crews and those using the road safe.

"Please give the equipment space we want them to focus on the task that they're working on, and not trying to avoid being provided. So, give them plenty of space."

Lawrence added some helpful tips for those travelling on the roads as well.

"We want to make sure that we have some water, maybe a little bit of food, warm clothes and things in our vehicle. Don't leave your house on an empty tank of gas. If you end up stuck, you know, the best thing you can do is wait for your emergency services or someone to help get you out of that situation."
