The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released additional details regarding the fatal shooting that left two people dead Sunday night in Sun Valley.
According to investigators, deputies responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 21 to a report of a battery with a deadly weapon in the parking lot of 5360 Sun Valley Boulevard.
Detectives determined that an adult male suspect was parked at the location in his vehicle before exiting and approaching the female victim, who was seated inside her vehicle and known to him.
Investigators say the suspect, a man who was armed with a gun, shot the woman before turning the gun on himself.
When deputies arrived, they located the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, who sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical personnel, where she later died.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that left two people dead Sunday night in Sun Valley.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to a report of a battery with a deadly weapon involving a man and a woman on Sun Valley Boulevard, Near Gepford Parkway between 4th Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies also located an adult woman with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle nearby. She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
Detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office will conduct the formal death investigation and release the identities of the victims after next of kin have been notified.
Investigators say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.
Officials had the area closed off on Sun Valley Boulevard, between 4th Avenue and 2nd Avenue, for several hours asking the public to avoid the area while detectives processed the scene and conducted their investigation.
