Downtown Reno Installs “Portland Loo” Restroom Number Two March 2023

One Truckee River cut the ribbon on downtown Reno's second "Portland Loo" restroom Thursday morning.

City of Reno residents and visitors to the downtown river walks have a new place to go to the bathroom along the Truckee River.

The City of Reno in its efforts to continue to address the bathroom shortages in the downtown area has installed a third 'Portland Loo" located at City Plaza.

The first was installed at Brodhead Memorial Park and the second one is located at John Champion Park.

Since the installation of the first two Portland Loos, the city has seen a decrease in the amount of fecal matter in the areas.

The community is invited to attend the official opening of the restroom during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 21 at 1 p.m. at City Plaza, 10 North Virginia Street.

Public restrooms along the Truckee River are essential for a thriving river corridor. They protect water quality, enhance recreation and support revitalization” said Iris Jehle-Peppard, One Truckee River (OTR) Executive Director.

“This work has been a high priority, identified by the OTR Partnership Council since 2017. It’s gratifying to have the third Loo installed in Reno’s City Plaza where many people will utilize it, including events in the Plaza. “

A Portland Loo is a single-occupant public restroom, designed for durability, and easy maintenance and minimizes use for unintended purposes.

The City's long-term goal is to increase the number of public restrooms from 10 to 19 along the river to help preserve the well-being of the area.
