Many local communities will be holding Drug Take Back Day events on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Residents will be able to drop off unneeded medication to be disposed of safely. No needles will be accepted at any sites.
There will be nine locations in Reno, Sparks and surrounding areas.
The locations in Reno are:
- Smiths, 175 Lemmon Drive
- Smiths, 750 South Meadows Parkway
- Raley's, 1630 Robb Drive
- Raley's, 18144 Wedge Parkway
- Elks Lodge, 597 Kumle Lane
The locations in Sparks are:
- Elks Lodge, 517 South Rock Boulevard
- Smiths, 1255 Baring Boulevard
There will also be a location in Spanish Springs at the RSIC Smoke Shop at 7655 Pyramid Highway.
In Cold Springs, residents can visit the Cold Springs Community Center at 3355 White Lake Parkway.
Truckee residents can visit the Safeway parking lot at 11290 Donner Pass Road.
They will be accepting pills, liquid medication, and vapes and e-cigarettes.
They ask that you put pills into a Ziplock bag and dispose of empty bottles in the trash or recycling. Liquid medications should be kept in the original bottle, and confidential information should be blacked out, before putting the bottle in a Ziplock bag.
Vapes and e-cigarettes will be accepted unless they have lithium ion batteries.
In South Lake Tahoe, there will be a location at the Lake Tahoe Community College.
In Storey County, residents can take their medications to the Storey Senior Citizen Center at 100 Mill Street in Virginia City.
In Lyon County, there will be two locations available.
Residents can visit the Smith's at 2200 Old Highway 50 in Dayton, or the Dollar General at 1105 Lake Avenue in Silver Springs.
Residents in Winnemucca will be able to drop off their medication in the Walmart parking lot.
People who live in Churchill County can drop their medications off in the Walgreens parking lot.
