The Nevada Democratic Party convened its state convention over the weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. We had the opportunity to speak with Erica Roth, a candidate for the Reno state assembly, who was elected on Saturday to represent northern Nevada at the Democratic National Convention.
"I loved being able to talk about why this election means so much to me because I've been out campaigning myself, and I know how much this election means to my community. And, so, I was very proud to get up and asked to be a national delegate and even prouder to be picked. We have some really amazing national delegates from across the state that are working on pivotal issues," said (D) - State Assembly District 24 candidate Erica Roth.Â
The state party elected 49 delegates and three alternate delegates to attend the Democratic National Convention, which will be held on August 19 - 22 at the United Center in Chicago.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, both influential figures in the Democratic Party, were the main speakers at a high-profile event that was attended by every member of the Nevada Democrats federal congressional delegation.
The objective of the event was to rally Nevada voters to support the re-election of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election.
During her speech, Pelosi declared, "Nevada will lead us to victory," and encouraged Nevada Democrats not to be discouraged by a recent New York Times poll showing Biden trailing former President Trump by 13 points in Nevada.
"Nevada has always been a battleground state, so we are now 'first in the West' for delegate selection to the national convention. The road to the White House absolutely leads through Nevada, and that's why Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are making historic investments in this state. They have set up offices across the state, really investing in the people and ensuring they know what matters most to Nevadans," explained Roth.Â
