The Fallon Police Department in an online post is warning residents of a phone scam targeting their community.

The scam involves a fake phone number spoofed to appear as the Fallon Police Department number.

The caller then identifies themselves as "Homeland Security" and claims to have a warrant for the arrest of the person called.

The caller makes threats of impending arrest if payment is not collected over the phone.

The Fallon Police Department is advising residents that they do not take payments for warrants.

All fees for warrants would be handled directly through the applicable court.

Police advise if a caller is notified by phone of an active warrant, police personnel would provide information as to which court is involved as well as provide bail amount information.

In addition, they would ask that you either contact the court involved directly or come to the police department to turn yourself in.

Police are advising residents to not fall for this scam or provide the caller with any personal information.
