Fernley City Hall is the only place in the city where its residents can cast their ballots in person.

There was a huge rush of people this morning, with a steady flow throughout the afternoon.

Many voters said that everyone should voice their opinion because they believe it's your duty to do so.

"We Americans are very good at complaining what the politicians do or don't do," said Jose Lopez, Fernley resident. "If we don't come out to vote then there's nobody to tell them. Get off your butts. Get in here. The process is very easy to do. It doesn't matter what your political party is. It doesn't matter what you espouse. It's important to do that."

"You need to vote," said Mike Wakeling Sr., Fernley resident. "One way or another. Be a part of the solution because if you don't like what we have, then vote. Make changes. That's what it is about. That's why we're here, is to make these changes."

"It's important to vote so we can get these primaries done," said Charles Zemp, Fernley resident. "Some of these people can win on the primaries alone and it's just our right as an American citizen to come out, vote and support the voting system."

For this primary election, some voters say it'll play a huge role for the silver state.

"Well, if we don't do it locally, how are we going to control anything at the national level?" said Bernadine Kroetch, Fernley resident. "We have to have good people to keep our local area straight and then it will pass on to the national."

Some of these voters said there were specific issues they wanted addressed when deciding which candidates they wanted to cast their ballot for.

"I want to promote people that are labor friendly because I work for the Bricklayers Union," Zemp said.

"I also want our politicians to know that regardless of the national narrative, there are those of us that believe in the rights of the unborn child," Lopez said.

"Honesty, and good sense when it comes to good policies for the local," Kroetch said.

"We can always use an improvement and we can use new blood," Wakeling Sr. said. "Younger generation that are coming out of the service or whatever if they feel they have the heart to serve the community."

The City of Fernley expects there to be about 500 to 600 people that will come to vote in person.

They said that's pretty standard, but that the number is lower due to mail in ballots.

One voter does prefer to do it old school.

"Label me an old fashion type of guy but it's good to smell the roses too," Wakeling Sr. said.

Polls at Fernley City Hall and the rest of Nevada will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
