Prescribed burns began in Carson City on Monday. They will continue through February.
The goal of the burns is to prevent wildfires by clearing fuels for them.
The Carson City Fire Department says they will happen in the wildland urban interface, where the high desert meets the foothills to the west, as well as sagebrush-covered areas in the north, east, and southeast.
Smoke may be visible, and firefighters say you don't report it unless you see signs of an active wildfire.
