It's that time of the year when airports see a whole lot of traffic for the holidays. At Reno-Tahoe International, officials say they are getting close to high levels they saw in 2019.

“The Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving are very busy and the Monday after Thanksgiving is the busiest day, kind of surprising people are staying that long,” says Stacey Sunday, Director of Communications at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Since their parking lots have been filling up on a regular basis, the airports website now has an option so people can see how many spots are open before arriving, that is so you can make a better decision about parking or catching a ride.

They have also started a partnership with the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) to use their convention center parking lot and also provide shuttles to the airport.

Those already traveling and ready for Thanksgiving say their experience was similar to what they were used to before COVID-19.

“It was good it was really no different than any other time that I’ve traveled other than wearing a mask. I really didn't notice any difference, says Traveler Brad Smith.

Although some people are having an easier time traveling, people at the airport say being early, bringing snacks, and having your phone charged can help, especially if the lines are long.
