Truckee Meadows Housing Solutions (TMHS) announced a new low-income housing project on 4th Street in Reno. The project is organized by both TMHS and the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project (NYEP), called the 4th Street Project.
A 10-unit housing project begins its construction, aimed to serve seniors and young adults with limited incomes.
According to TMHS, a nonprofit housing organization is dedicated to making sure the availability of affordable Northern Nevada housing increases. Monica DuPea and the team bring experience in affordable housing development and resident services for this project.
“The 4th Street Project represents years of persistence, partnership, and shared vision,” said Monica DuPea, executive director of Truckee Meadows Housing Solutions. “I want to thank the Reno Housing Authority, especially Executive Director Dr. Hilary Lopez, for their leadership and assistance in helping bring this dream to fruition. We are also deeply grateful to the Jacobs Family Foundation for Children for its early and ongoing support, and to Mayor Hillary Schieve and the City of Reno for donating the land that made this development possible.”
Over the past two years, DuPea has worked directly with relocation teams to help seniors transitioning from unsafe motels into secure, stable housing. Dupea's experience helped identify the desperate needs of the project to combat low-income areas.
According to organizers, DuPea will serve as the initial on-site property manager during the launch and promote a positive resident experience.
Also, according to organizers, "The 4th Street Project is funded by the Jacobs Family Foundation for Children, the Joseph Foundation, the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) through FHLBank San Francisco, the Lifestyle Homes Foundation, and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The Jacobs Family Foundation for Children is led by Hanna and Claire Jacobs, daughters of Jeffrey P. Jacobs, CEO and owner of J Resort and J Resort’s Reno Neon Line."
