BLM Ely District online survey for White Pine

Through a statewide survey, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Ely District, is seeking the public's input on a preliminary environmental assessment analyzing the feasibility of a proposed waterpower plant on public lands in Steptoe Valley.

BLM says that if the assessment is approved, White Pine Waterpower, LLC, will drill two tests and three monitoring wells.

The wells will track the groundwater's response to pumping and estimate both discharge and optimal pumping rates, hydrogeologic parameters, and hydraulic boundaries, as well as the approximate operating conditions for the proposed production wells.

They say testing will take around nine days at each well location; following testing, the drill pads will be restored and reclaimed.

If you are interested in participating in the survey, it is available online at the BLM National NEPA Register.

Public comments can also be submitted now through Monday, February 24, at the "Participate Now" option of the survey, which is the preferred option; however, written comments may also be submitted by mail to the BLM Bristlecone Field Office -  ATTN: Hydrogeologic Investigation EA at 702 North Industrial Way, Ely, Nevada 89301.
