In an effort to improve service and give people more access to resources, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (CCNN) has extended the hours of its food pantry.

Except for the Main Campus site, Client Choice Pantries are accessible within the Neighborhood Centers.

Monday, March 10, is when the new hours will go into effect.

Catholic Charities says the Neighborhood Centers provide a variety of services and are conveniently located next to schools, churches, or recreational centers.

They say that instead of receiving a pre-packaged or typical bag of food, people can select from a variety of meats, dairy products, fresh vegetables, and non-perishable items at the Client Choice Pantries, which function similarly to grocery stores.

The updated hours are as follows:

  • St. Vincent's Food Pantry on Main Campus, 500 E. Fourth Street, is open Monday through Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m.; it is closed on Thursdays. On Friday, it will host a farmer's market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sun Valley Client Choice Pantry, located at 130 West Gepford Parkway, is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 to 4 p.m.
  • North Valleys Client Choice Pantry, located at 440 E. Golden Valley Road is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 12 to 4 p.m.
  • Moana Client Choice Pantry, located at 480 E. Moana Lane, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 4 p.m.

The Essentials Closet, which was formerly known as the Wellness Center, will continue to operate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the main campus.

Catholic Charities says it's for people transitioning and moving into a new apartment and offers necessities including coats, blankets, hygiene supplies, and starter kits.
