Earlier on Saturday, South Lake Tahoe residents were able to attend the winter operations open house, which is an event that showcases the city's new snow removal equipment.

It also allows residents to learn more about snow removal operations, while giving kids the opportunity to get a close look at the equipment.

The city says this also allows them to give residents a close look at where some of their tax dollars are going.

"So, we have made about 10 million dollars of investments in new equipment; we have purchased six new graders, two new blowers and other equipment that we need for snow operations. Both for the streets, as well as the parks and the airport," said Anush Nejad, Director of Public Works for the City of South Lake Tahoe.

When snow needs to be plowed, the city of South Lake Tahoe has to cover about 270 road miles which is broken up into eight different zones.

They say the new equipment has increased their snow removal operations, and the investments will allow them to clear the streets within one or two days.

The city has also been able to hire ten new seasonal workers - who are enjoying the equipment so far, because they say it's much more reliable than the old equipment.

"The old equipment that we had, we had so much downtime. They were breaking down often, and that put the equipment out of operations. This new equipment obviously is new so we can operate them without failure," said Anush Nejad.

The City of South Lake Tahoe also says residents can see snow plowing operations in real time on their website.
