The Truckee River will get a cleanup this weekend as volunteers from across the Reno and Sparks area come together for the 22nd annual Truckee River Cleanup.
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is organizing the event Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. More than 20 sites along the river corridor will host volunteers working on projects ranging from picking up trash to removing invasive weeds, planting native vegetation, and improving parks.
The cleanup will take place at locations throughout Reno and Sparks, including Bicentennial Park, Cottonwood Park, John Champion Park and Rock Park.
After the work is finished, volunteers can attend an appreciation picnic sponsored by NextEra Energy Resources, with food, drinks, and raffle prizes.
The event is supported by a number of community organizations and local businesses, including the Truckee River Fund, the cities of Reno and Sparks, Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space, and Northern Nevada Public Health.
