Dark Prison Haunted House coming to Nevada State Prison

Dark Prison Haunted House will launch its first full season this fall inside the historic Nevada State Prison in Carson City.

The immersive attraction will operate for 17 nights, with timed-entry tickets now on sale at darkprison.com.

Dates run on weekends from Friday, September 26 through November 1.

The event is hosted inside the more than 150-year-old decommissioned maximum-security facility, which closed to the public in 2012.

It is produced by Dark Corner Creative in partnership with the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society.

“The team of artists from Dark Corner Creative have been working non-stop over the last few months to put together this stunning show. We’ve built out new spaces, new characters, and new props all while preserving the history of the amazing building Dark Prison takes place in,” said Holly Sphar, CEO of Dark Corner Creative.

The haunted experience spans multiple areas of the prison. The Yard serves as an entry point and gathering space, offering games, DJ music, a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and performances by Northern Nevada artists on select nights.

Cell Block C, the first extension of the haunt, features fictional inmates in real prison cells. Unit 15 follows, with newer characters tied to the Shadow Plague storyline from a previous Dark Corner attraction in Downtown Reno.

The final area, Jorgan’s Institute for the Unwell, includes new characters developed by Dark Corner Creative and VEXA props.

“Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is thrilled to partner with Dark Corner Creative, a partnership that reiterates our commitment to expanding opportunities for visitors to experience Nevada State Prison,” said Lucia Maloney, General Manager of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society.

This season follows a Halfway to Halloween event in May that reached capacity.

“The response to our spring event was incredible, and we’re excited to build on that momentum,” said Dustin Ring, CFO and CTO of Dark Corner Creative. “Working with NSPPS allows us to create something truly unique in a venue unlike any other.”

Since its closure in 2012, the Nevada State Prison has been open for historic and paranormal tours, private events, and film productions. According to organizers, Dark Prison Haunted House allows larger public attendance in a new format.

“Whether someone has never walked through the prison's gates, joined us years ago on a tour, or are a lifetime member, this year's Dark Prison Haunt is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience that is not to be missed,” Maloney said.
